Transmissionary Six

Friday, March 7

Anybody remember the Back to Mine series, where artists like Underworld and Everything But the Girl would compile their favorite chill-out tunes, guaranteeing an eclectic late-night soundtrack every time? I'd like to hear Terri Moeller's and Paul Austin's, who've been performing as Transmissionary Six since they met while touring with former bands The Walkabouts and Willard Grant Conspiracy (respectively). Transmissionary's fourth full-length, to be released a few days after tonight's show, is Cosmonautical, and like Radar before it, is focused on creating a particularly sensual atmosphere—one of dancing in a dark kitchen or parking at an empty beach—but unlike Radar, it also takes its legs off the dashboard from time to time and sets about dancing. With Zera Marvel. Sunset Tavern, 5433 Ballard Ave. N.W., 784-4880. 7 p.m. $6. RACHEL SHIMP
