Bowie Vs. T-Rex Night

Sending up rock’s glam gods

By Maggie Dutton

Published on March 05, 2008

With the memory of last year’s Ramones vs. Clash band battle still reverberating through many a noggin, The Comet and promoter Andrew Hall will try to top themselves tonight with a Bowie vs. T. Rex battle of the bands. Or is that Battle of the Icons, with bands? This night ranks as infinitely more complicated, with gobs more pressure for those attempting to croon what some of us feel to be the end-all be-all of music. (That is, those of us who don’t feel that way about The Ramones or The Clash.) Several local bands, including The Dating Pool, The Harborrats, Sugarcane Mutiny, The Hammers, The Royal Bear, JunkMail, and more, will take turns riffing on glam rock classics—not quite a fair fight for the mellow strumming of most T. Rex. Kudos to whoever has the glittery balls to cover ‘80s Bowie. Regardless of which glam man you favor, everyone’s a winner tonight. The Comet Tavern, 922 E. Pike St., 323-9853. $6. 8 p.m. MAGGIE DUTTON
