Thelma Schoonmaker at SAM

An Oscar-winning editor discusses her craft

She owns three Academy Awards for cutting Martin Scorsese’s Raging Bull, The Aviator, and The Departed. (Their next project together will be an adaptation of Dennis Lehane’s Shutter Island, starring Leo DiCaprio.) She’s also famous for being the widow of Michael Powell, and she’s lately become the charming public spokeswoman for both directors—expertly explicating their process and how she shapes raw footage into finished product. No surprise for a woman who studied under Nabokov at Cornell during the ’60s, she’s an all-round scholar of cinema and a favorite visitor to Seattle. Tonight, after the screening, she’ll tell you everything you wanted to know about Scorsese’s 1988 The Last Temptation of Christ. (NR) Seattle Art Museum, 1300 First Ave., 654-3121, www.seattleartmuseum.org. $6-$8. 7:30 p.m.BRIAN MILLER
