Tudor Choir/Seattle Baroque Orchestra

A second coming for this Messiah

Whatever happened to all the Messiahs? A few years back, there were eight or ten performances each season. Or maybe it just seemed that way. It’s great to see a highlight of the lineup return after being on hiatus since 2001 ($$$ issues, as usual, until Town Hall stepped in to sponsor): the collaboration between Doug Fullington’s Tudor Choirand Ingrid Matthews’ Seattle Baroque Orchestra. The forces are smaller, but the spirit is just as mighty; these ensembles’ greater transparency and buoyancy make Handel’s picturesque work even punchier, more colorful and more dramatic. They’ll perform Messiah’s greatest hits at noon today in a special one-hour family concert(kids free, adults $5), and the whole thing at 7 p.m. ($17-$23).
Sat., Dec. 22, 12 & 7 p.m., 2007
