I’m curious to see Diem Chau’s spare family portraits, in silk and thread over porcelain dishes, recast in the medium of ’70s-era kitschy kids’ craft. Richard Hutter, whose graphic, highly textural work often includes stylized fleur-de-lis or punctuation marks, is also contributing work to the Sixth Annual Shrinky Dink Invitational Auction. I can imagine Deborah Bell’s gorgeous constellations of seemingly floating round forms transformed rather nicely into shrunken plastic. These are just three of the 80 artists putting work on the auction block to benefit the Sanctuary Art Center, a local nonprofit that provides art instruction to homeless youth ages 13 to 25. In addition to an art preview and silent auction, there will be “a live auction of the top five coveted shrinky dinks.”
