If you never had the chance to see Frank Zappa perform live before he kicked it, or did and wish you still could, this gig is the closest, most authentic version of the departed performer and composer’s music you’re going to get a chance to wrap your ears around. Zappa’s eldest son, Dweezil, has assembled a lineup of six highly-skilled musicians—plus veteran Zappa player Ray White—to perform the ridiculously complex arrangements of his father’s prog-rock-to-the-nth-degree-music that’s full of filth, humor, and social commentary. Following in the footsteps of a famous parent is usually a recipe for disaster, or at best mediocrity, but Dweezil Zappa is faithfully reproducing the music of his father (and his guitar solos) in a rare case of success—to the benefit of old and new Zappa aficionados.
