Come as You Aren’t: A Halloween Battle of the Bands

Last week, we provided an assortment of Halloween costume ideas derived from Bob Dylan lyrics. The process of compiling those ideas inspired my own costume idea: to simply carry two bottles of liquor with me all night, one labeled “Texas medicine” and the other labeled “railroad gin.” But it so inspired one friend of mine that she’s now simply going as Dylan himself. This is the idea behind Skylark Cafe’s “Come as You Aren’t: A Halloween Battle of the Bands.” Tonight, local acts will compete for prizes as they masquerade as another artist or band. Watch Justin Phillips do his best John Lennon impersonation, Speedmop ape the Sonics, and the Hot Rollers dress up as Quiet Riot. My personal favorite: members of Luna Moth and Tableland will play the work of composer Angelo Badalamenti, best known for his creepy soundtrack work with David Lynch.
