Great Beer for a Beer Great

Drink to his memory, and for everyone’s health

By Maggie Dutton

Published on September 26, 2007 at 5:00am

This Sunday evening, join in the toast to beer’s greatest champion, Michael Jackson, who passed away August 30, and help raise money for Parkinson disease research. Beer devotees around the country will gather at their favorite brewpub, alehouse, or rathskeller to drink microbrews and imported ales that most likely stem from the influence of the Beer Hunter. Downtown at the Pike Brewing Co., Charles Finkel (a longtime friend of Jackson) will feature cask ales from the Pike, Big Time, and Baron breweries and donate all the proceeds to the National Parkinson Foundation. “I think they’re all beers Michael would have appreciated,” he adds. “Michael didn’t advertise the fact that he had Parkinson’s, and I think people might have misinterpreted his state of health near the end.” Up in Fremont, Brouwer’s Café will pour a special Elysian ESB from cask, with proceeds also going to the NPF. Pike Brewing Co., 1415 First Ave., 622-6044; Brouwer’s Café, 400 N. 35th St., 267-2437.
