Stereo Total

Monday, September 3

Stereo Total Monday, September 3 Francophiles might’ve picked up a pair of albums in 2001 that transmitted a certain frisson—Stereolab’s fairly memorable Sound-Dust, and Stereo Total’s Musique Automatique, arguably their best-known release. Both bands have strong female leads to thank for their charm: Laetitia Sadier in the former, and drummer Françoise Cactus in the latter, with her keyboardist bandmate (though they share vocal and guitar duties), Brezel Göring. The less “serious” band of the two—whether because their songs, like “L’amour à 3,” are light and playful or because they don’t give a shit about typical promotion—Stereo Total have found a comfortable home on indie labels like their current Kill Rock Stars. Their new KRS release, Paris-Berlin, is again a lo-fi, four-track-recorded, endearingly quirky mess of electro-romantic love songs to the past, present, and each other.
Mon., Sept. 3, 8 p.m.
