Big Black Cover Night

Saturday, August 11

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: How many god-awful Cure and Morrissey cover nights must we suffer as Seattleites? Well, if the good folks at Jules Maes keep this kinda thing up, hopefully none. If you read Our Band Could Be Your Life, you’d know that Big Black played their final show on Aug. 11, 1987, at the Georgetown Steam Plant. So, it’s only appropriate that Georgetown’s definitive watering hole celebrate the occasion with a tribute night. Punk marimba player Erin Jorgensen will be there with Caustic Resin main man Brett Netsen. Levi Fuller will play solo and with his band, the Luna Moth. Psych punks Kalingrad will be reworking Big Black’s cover of Kraftwerk’s “The Model.” But quite possibly the biggest event of the evening: Chris Bauermeister of Jawbreaker will be there, joining I’m a Gun for “The Power of Independent Trucking” and “Deep Six.” Proceeds will benefit a local no-kill shelter, thanks to PBR. So, drink up with a conscience, y’all.
