Waajeed

Saturday, July 21

This past Memorial Day, some members of Sun Tzu Sound (who I’m going to take a break from mentioning for at least six months) took off to the annual Detroit Electronic Music Festival, and lookit who they brought back! Actually, this is the second time in a year that the former Slum Village member, Platinum Pied Piper, and Jay Dee protégé has thrown down for a Safari party. The eclectic monthly hosts him again on the eve of his first solo album, The War, out on Fat City Recordings. It’s a complex album, celebratory and mournful at the same time. Waajeed’s DJ set is sure to reflect the more upbeat end of that spectrum, with hip-hop, soul, house, and disco battling it out for dance-floor dominance.

Listen to a sample of Waajeed's "Bombs Away."
