10 Mercer

There’s something old-fashioned (dare we say dated?) about 10 Mercer. Maybe it’s the recorded piano jazz on the sound system, or the white-napkin formality of the table settings, but the place has an unmistakably ’80s feel. Even the crowd—studded with theater, ballet, and opera fans—looks a little older than what you find at neighboring Lower Queen Anne spots. But age brings wisdom, obviously, because people here know a good, tasty deal trumps trendy packaging every time. Sample the appetizer menu for half price between 10 p.m. and midnight, Sunday through Thursday; exotically stuffed samosas, tasty crab cakes, and other ocean-reared delicacies (shrimp, oysters, mussels) make regular appearances on the seasonally changing menu. Or stop in for a $5 glass of wine, 4:30–6:30 p.m. on the same days. By the time you leave, you might just find yourself rethinking your position on piano jazz. 10 Mercer St., 206-691-3723, www.tenmercer.com. LOWER QUEEN ANNE
