Sunset Tavern

You almost don’t expect such a wild time way out in Ballard, but at the Sunset Tavern, practically anything can happen—and it usually does. Whether it’s Canada’s Nardwuar the Human Serviette stripping down to his skivvies (pictured) or some indie-rock star convulsing into the crowd, you can pretty much count on something extraordinary happening, even if that just means having an extraordinarily good time. With its red and black walls and restored old-growth wood ceilings, left over from this joint’s days as a Chinese restaurant (the space dates back to the ’40s), the Sunset’s an ideal spot to sip a Guinness or slurp down a PBR—or a shot of tequila. Yep, the Sunset now has liquor. 5433 Ballard Ave. N.W., 206-784-4880, www.sunsettavern.com.
