Bare Bones

As if it wasn't enough to raise money for a good cause, this fundraiser for the annual Seattle Festival of Alternative Dance and Improvisation (students from last year's edition are pictured above) manages to present some fabulous performance in its own right. Food, drink, and silent auction are punctuated by local artists John Dixon, Beth Graczyk, Gaelen Hanson, Lila Hurwitz, Tonya Lockyer, Peggy Piacenza, and Alia Swerskey, as well as the the notorious Keith Hennessy from San Francisco, all slipping through the space like the best improvisors do. Velocity MainSpace Theater, 915 E. Pine St., second floor, 206-686-7323. $10-$20. 8 p.m. Sat. May 14. SANDRA KURTZ

Seattle Youth Symphony

After only three seasons, SYSO director Huw Edwards (pictured) is stepping down—three seasons in which he continued the tradition of imaginative programming and lofty playing standards set down by his predecessor, Jonathan Shames. Edwards' final concert will be typically intriguing: Joining in on the Seattle Symphony's Made in America festival, they'll play music by Barber, Harris, and Schuman, Copland's Clarinet Concerto with soloist Laura DeLuca, and Antiphonal Dances by this year's composer-in- residence John Mackey. Benaroya Hall, Third and Union, 206-362-2300. $8-$35. 3 p.m. Sun. May 15. GAVIN BORCHERT
