Mary Sheldon Scott/Jarrad Powell Performance

Vessel is the latest fruit of the eleven-year collaboration between partners Scott and Powell. In that time, Scott's movement has become ever more fluid, translating ideas about the power of natural phenomena into a physical vocabulary. Composer Powell's evocative sonic environments for that kinetic world draw on his skills with contemporary composition and Southeast Asian musical forms. On the Boards, 100 W. Leon Fleisher

One of the generation of great American pianists that came of age in the 1950s, Fleisher was sidelined for decades—or at least his right hand was—due to a neurological condition called focal dystonia. After a career devoted to the small but interesting left-hand repertory, and after a lengthy course of therapy that included Botox injections, Fleisher is gingerly tackling two-hand music again. In next week's appearance with the Northwest Chamber Orchestra, he'll play Brahms and Bach (a review of Fleisher's recent Bach CD includes phrases like "serene greatness") and conduct Mozart.
