SODO JAN. 10-11 January at Earth & Ocean is a showcase month for Oregon's Sineann Winery, and for two nights, Sineann owner David O'Reilly will stroll about the place, answering questions and possibly signing autographs on wine labels. DOWNTOWN SEATTLE JAN. 14 You know that syrah has finally made its mark locally when the Seattle Enological Society plans a tasting that revolves around it. Northwest syrahs (from Idaho, Oregon, and Washington) will be sipped en masse; the nice people from Palomino will provide complementary eats. MONTLAKE JAN. 15 Il Fornaio dedicates its first tasting of 2004 to N.Y.C.-based Banfi Vintners, an importer of Chilean, Australian, and Italian wines named after somebody's eclectic aunt. DOWNTOWN SEATTLE JAN. 16 Bordeaux is where we'd like to be about now, and Redmondian catering kingpin (queenpin?) Lisa Dupar promises food and wine that evoke the romance of France. REDMOND JAN. 22 Canlis flexes its alliterative muscle with The Wee Wonders of Woodinville, a wine dinner encompassing the Betz Family Winery, the much-publicized Januik Winery, and several other notable grape-squashing enterprises. QUEEN ANNE BACK TO SCHOOL JAN. 9 If 2003 was a back-to-basics year for foodies, why not start the new year with an equally commonsensical approach? LAKE UNION Anyone who's ever shared a meze platter with his or her 10 closest friends knows the glory of this Middle Eastern smorgasbord.
