Dear Hungry & Thirsty,

What happened to Sammie Sue's Diner at 12th and Pike? It was yummy and thriving, seemingly, and now it is gone. Now who has the best biscuits and gravy?

B.A.G. Fan

Hungry replies: The closure of Sammie Sue's and the loss of the yummy biscuits and gravy served therein has caused much local wailing and gnashing of teeth; you are not alone, friend. Why? the citizenry cry. I spoke with Sammie Sue herself, who said that she decided to sell the restaurant after she hurt her leg, making the daily operations of the business difficult for her; she seems to be in good spirits, however, and she knows a lot of people miss her b. 'n' g. Sammie Sue reports having had a plate of "wonderful" biscuits with gravy of the mushroom variety recently at the Globe Cafe (1531 14th E., 324-9915), and she certainly is the expert.

The former Sammie Sue's space is now home to 1200 Bistro & Lounge (1200 E. Pike, 320-1200), quite favorably reviewed in this paper last month and by all accounts a trove of tasty, stylish food and beverages and the men (mostly) who love them (and each other).

Thirsty replies: Run with your legs to Glo's (1621 E. Olive Way, 324-2577)! Hope that it is a special day with the biscuits and mushroom gravy special on the specials board! Eat! Also Hattie's Hat (5231 Ballard N.W., 784-0175)! Weekend brunch! I love biscuits and gravy at Hattie's Hat! Also a bloody Mary! Makes you feel better! Also the smoked salmon Benedict is crazy-making! In that it will make you crazy with its goodness!

Amigos,

If you are going to tell us what pozole is [Hungry & Thirsty, Dec. 27, 2001], you should spell it correctly. I know this may seem petty, but I thought you should know.

Saludos,

Stephanie Diaz

Hungry replies: Estimada Srta.
