Chateau Ste. Michelle sparkling wines The Woodinville-based vintner celebrates 25 years in the business with the release of four variations on classic bubbly in the French manner: thoroughly dry brut, blanc de blanc, and blanc de noir and a somewhat rounder, but still not sweet, "extra dry." All around $11.

'98 Domaine Meriweather brut Sixth-generation Champagne winemaker Jean-Louis Denois created this classic barrel-fermented vintage from Oregon chardonnay, pinot noir, and pinot meunier grapes. Around $25 at specialty wine shops.

AT THE MARKET

Peet's Coffee, the Berkeley, Calif.-based gourmet coffee company co-owned by Starbuck's co-founder Jerry Baldwin, is now available at in-store shops in all six Larry's Markets round Lake Washington. Peet's will sell its beans and blends to anyone, but it targets demanding customers who want to know every last thing about their steaming cup of joe. 9/20 Reservations are now open through April 2002 for dinner at the Herbfarm, home of superchef Jerry Traunfeld's nine-course seasonal food fantasias. Through September, the banquet theme is "menu for an Indian summer." 9/21-9/23 Thirty-five breweries, with 70 beers on tap, are expected at the three-day Fremont Oktoberfest (see related article in Sips, p. 29): $15 gets you into the tasting tent and access to five brews; additional samples are $1 each. All this and a plethora of bands, wurst, pretzels, and a chainsaw pumpkin-carving contest! It's a full life. Fremont N. and Northlake Way (just north of the Fremont Bridge). 9/22-9/23 Snacks, sweets, music, and wine are on the program for Chateau Ste. Michelle's 25th anniversary open house.
