I HEARD YOU PLAYING BLUES TRAVELER'S "RUNAROUND." THAT WAS REALLY COOL. Thanks. I like to play stuff that surprises people. I generally avoid anything that's traditional street musician stuff—you know, Beatles, Eagles, Dylan.
WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE SONGS TO COVER? That's like picking a favorite child. I like Matchbox 20, Live. I can do Alanis.
WHICH ONE? The dirty one.
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN PLAYING? I've been a street musician for 15 years, played the Bookstore on and off for about 10 years. I play on Broadway occasionally. I used to do the Market, but there's too much politics there now.
HOW DO YOU MEAN? It's getting crowded, even down here. There are less musicians, more street kids and panhandlers. I've never been hassled by the police, though. They ask you to move sometimes, but they're always really polite. I think it helps if they like your music.
